Bendixking KN63 DME RECEIVER-Distance Measuring Equipment (DME)

Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) - distance measuring equipment is composed of an airborne interrogator and a ground transponder. Its working principle is that the airborne rangefinder emits a pair of inquiry pulse signals, and the ground beacon station receives the inquiry signal and generates corresponding response pulse signals at different frequencies. After receiving the ground radio frequency pulse signal, the airborne rangefinder can calculate the distance between the aircraft and the ground ranging beacon according to the time delay between the inquiry pulse and the response pulse.

DME measures the diagonal distance rather than the horizontal distance. When the flight altitude of the aircraft is much less than the slant distance to the console, the slant distance measured by the DME can be regarded as the plane distance to the console. DME operates in the UHF band, frequency range: 962-1213 MHz. The effective coverage range of DME is 200NM, and within the effective coverage range, the ranging error of the system is not greater than 0.5NM. According to the International Civil Aviation Organization, the DME can provide distance information for up to 100 aircraft.
